Official Announcement-Advertisement for Appointment of Fire Chief
The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the opening of the Fire Chief position at the Janesville Fire Protection District. The Fire Chief is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing all District programs and operations, guided by the policy direction of the Board of Directors.
The Fire Chief will ensure that the District operates within its approved budget, directs proactive program development, and fosters strong partnerships with neighboring fire agencies, governmental entities, and the community we serve. In addition, the Fire Chief is tasked with analyzing legislation, recommending policy changes, managing training and education programs, securing and administering grant funding, and overseeing incident investigations.
Key responsibilities of the Fire Chief include:
· Volunteer Recruitment and Retention: Creating and sustaining an environment that supports current members and attracts new volunteers, while staying informed on recruitment and retention best practices at the local, state, and national level.
· Emergency Response: Providing command and control at all emergency incidents, maintaining proficiency with all district equipment, and actively responding as a member of engine companies, medical teams, or water tender operations as required. Ensuring continual evaluation and improvement of the District’s response capabilities.
· Planning and Fire Prevention: Leading the District’s participation in fire prevention activities and representing the District’s interests in county planning processes.
· Financial Operations: Managing the District’s financial resources in a cost-efficient and transparent manner. This includes ensuring proper planning for large expenditures, obtaining competitive vendor quotes, maintaining proper documentation, and working closely with the Board of Directors and district secretary.
· Goals and Strategic Planning: Developing both short- and long-term plans for the District with input from members, the Board of Directors, partner agencies, and the community, ensuring the District is prepared to meet both present and future needs.
The Fire Chief will represent the District at Board meetings and official functions, maintain open lines of communication with the Board, District personnel, and the public, and ensure operational policies align with the District’s mission. This is a leadership role requiring vision, initiative, and a genuine commitment to all aspects of the organization and its members.

Hours and compensation will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
